Final Fantasy VII Revelation Physical Edition Requires Internet Connection on PS5, Xbox and Switch 2

by Salal Awan

Final Fantasy VII Revelation will require an internet connection to download additional game data when using physical copies on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The requirement was highlighted by Wario64 on Bluesky and is also stated in Square Enix’s official press release for the game.

On PlayStation 5, Square Enix states that an internet connection is required to download additional game data in order to play the physical version. The same requirement applies to the physical Xbox Series X and S version.

The requirement is more substantial on Nintendo Switch 2. The physical release will be distributed as a Game-Key Card, meaning the game data must be downloaded when the title is launched for the first time.

Square Enix states that the Nintendo Switch 2 version requires an internet connection and at least 130 GB of available storage space for the initial download.

Internet Requirement Applies Across Physical Releases

The physical editions therefore do not contain all of the game data needed to play Final Fantasy VII Revelation directly from the disc or Game-Key Card. PS5 and Xbox Series X and S owners will need to download additional data, while Switch 2 owners will need to download the game because of the Game-Key Card format.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled to launch on April 8, 2027, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.

The game is described by Square Enix as the conclusion to the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, featuring an expansive overworld, new regions, an updated combat system and character-focused storytelling.
